Performance Modelling

Radar performance modelling is an important part of all stages of a radar system's lifecycle. The requirement specification has to blend the required performance with what is possible through modelling. The design and development phase uses performance modelling to trade-off different approaches and solutions to engineering problems. During acceptance trials the validation of the model provides an efficient means of testing the system over a wide range of environments and operating parameters. This may be extended to using the model to inform the early development of the tactical use of the new system, and to form the basis of an operator training system. Throughout the operational use of the radar a performance model is a key component of the mission planning process. Finally, when it comes to updating or replacing the system, the model, which has been validated and improved throughout the life of the radar, provides the baseline against which improvements can be judged.

Igence is able to supply and support radar performance models suitable for all the applications described above. Key features of the models are:

Download KCalc

KCalc is a demonstration application for Windows. It calculates the detection of standard Swerling targets in K distributed clutter. The radar equation, propagation effects, processing losses, Gamma target and save/store capabilities are not included in the demo. A technical note (link) describes how to use the calculator to produce results presented in the literature.

To enable us to monitor interest in the demo, we require a valid email address before you can access the download link.
